Junior Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) won both her matches, but it was not enough as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the year at the hands of Adelphi University, 5-4, Sunday afternoon at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
Trailing, 2-0, in doubles, Southern New Hampshire gained a crucial point at No. 1 doubles when Sala and classmate Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) pulled out a 9-8 (7-5) victory against Rebecca Fakas and Karen Serina.
Sala then evened the score, 2-2, with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles over Elizabeth Kallenberg. Adelphi would move ahead, 4-2, however, with wins at Nos. 3 and 4 singles. The Panthers clinched the match at No. 1 singles, with Fakas downing Morais, 6-2, 6-3.
Junior Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) won the first set, 6-2, at No. 5 singles before Serina was forced to retire, while senior Lindsay Baum (No. Salem, N.Y.) capped the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Vanja Savic at No. 6 singles.
Notes:
 - The loss at No. 4 singles for freshman Casey Burns (Westbrook, Conn.) was the first of her career.

 The Penmen return to action Tuesday, Oct. 3 (3 p.m.) when they take on Stonehill College. The next home match for SNHU is Saturday, Oct. 14 (11 a.m.) when it plays host to Saint Michael's College at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
