Senior goalkeeper Paige Salmon (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) made a pair of saves to record another shutout, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team was forced to settle for a 0-0 tie against Southern Connecticut on Friday evening at Jess Dow Field.
Southern New Hampshire did not force Southern Connecticut goalkeeper Gabrielle Arruda to make a stop until midway through the 29th minute when she came up with a save on sophomore Shae Roys (No. Billerica, Mass.). Senior Sydney Crema (Litchfield, N.H.) made a bid late in the 32nd minute, but Arruda was again up to the task. Salmon would make a big save with 30 seconds left before the break, as the match would go to halftime, scoreless.
After three more Penmen bids were turned away by Arruda, neither team put a shot on net in the first overtime period. In the second extra session, however, Southern New Hampshire would pepper Arruda with four shots, including a header from Roys off a corner service, but the visitors could not find the back of the net.
Both of Salmon's saves came in regulation, while Arruda stopped nine shots.
