MANCHESTER, N.H. – WGIR 610 AM, based in Manchester, will broadcast a total of 21 Southern New Hampshire University men's and women's basketball games during the 2017-18 season. The schedule, which includes nine Northeast-10 Conference doubleheaders, kicks off with a home twinbill versus Merrimack College on Tuesday, Nov. 21 (5:15 p.m.).
"We are very happy to be continuing our partnership with WGIR-AM to air our men's and women's basketball games this season," Associate Athletic Director Tom Wilkins said. "The 21-game slate is the largest we have ever done and, combined with our extensive television and web streaming packages, allows us to share our tremendous basketball programs with even more Penmen fans. I would like to personally thank Joe Graham, Erin Boss and the entire staff at WGIR for making this happen once again and look forward to continue the development of our fantastic relationship."
Dan Hannigan and Jacob VanRyn will serve as the primary talent crew, with Hannigan handling play-by-play duties and VanRyn providing the color commentary. Bob Lipman will also fill in on a number of broadcasts in both a play-by-play and analyst role.
The Hannigan-VanRyn duo have worked together broadcasting Penmen basketball games together for four straight seasons. Hannigan, who has 20 years of experience as the University of Maine men's ice hockey radio voice, has earned Maine Sportscaster of the Year honors on multiple occasions and was at the microphone for Maine's 1999 national championship win as he called the game-winning goal for Maine radio. VanRyn is a seasoned New England broadcast professional and will lend insight into the Northeast-10 during broadcast as he currently serves as the league's Associate Commissioner for Strategic Communications. VanRyn, who works on Penmen soccer, baseball and softball broadcasts and is also the play-by-play voice of Bentley University football, owns nearly 20 years of broadcasting experience, calling numerous NCAA Division II men's basketball regionals, as well as the 2015 Elite Eight. Lipman is also an experienced play-by-play man, having served as the voice of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats since 2004 and of University of New Hampshire football since 2001. The six-time New Hampshire Broadcaster of the Year also called Dartmouth College football games for nearly a decade.
The WGIR package will also include four road doubleheaders, as well as a single men's game at Saint Leo University during the team's trip to Florida for the New Year's holiday.
