Sophomore Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) won the only game of singles for the Penmen as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, by second-ranked Brigham Young University-Hawaii on Wednesday at the BYUH Tennis Courts.
Sala fell to Xin Wen, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 3 singles as she was the only Penmen to steal a game from the Seasiders.
In doubles play, sophomores Kaitlyn Poje (E. Stroudsburg, Pa.) and Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) grabbed a game from Wen and Nannan Zhang, dropping the No. 1 flight, 8-1. Junior Lindsay Baum (N. Salem, N.Y.) and sophomore Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) also captured a game at No. 3 doubles, but lost to Michelle Li Sha Khoo and Jeong-Min Jeon, 8-1.
Notes:
-SNHU loses for just the third time in its last 11 matches.
-The loss for Baum snapped her nine-match winning streak in singles play, while she and Wagner fall to 15-2 this season as doubles partners.
-Southern New Hampshire is slotted sixth in the ITA East Region Rankings.
