MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University Department of Athletics has reached another agreement with NESN, New England's most watched sports network, to carry five games in the spring, including the first ever Penmen softball game and baseball for the second straight year. The broadcasts, which will air on NESNplus and NESN National, will be produced by Pack Network, SNHU's partner in offering live video webcasts in 13 different sports.
"SNHU Athletics is extremely excited to again be expanding our relationship with NESN," said Southern New Hampshire Associate Director of Athletics, Tom Wilkins. "We have seen huge success through our three years of airing Penmen basketball games, as well as last season's baseball doubleheader, and are thrilled to be able to showcase our regionally- and nationally-relevant baseball and softball programs on the NESN platform this spring. It is also gratifying to be able to reward the support of the SNHU fans, alumni, members of the Penmen family and the greater New England community with more opportunities to see Penmen Athletics on NESN."
SNHU's spring NESN schedule will begin with a huge tilt between baseball and arch-rival Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday, April 18 (6 p.m.). A baseball doubleheader against Bentley University is next on Saturday, April 22, with first pitch at noon, while softball will wrap up the slate with a doubleheader against Mercy College on Sunday, April 30 (12/2 p.m.)
Dan Hannigan and Jacob VanRyn will share play-by-play and color commentary duties for baseball, after working together on Penmen basketball broadcasts for the last three seasons. Hannigan has 20 years of experience as the University of Maine men's ice hockey radio voice. Hannigan has earned Maine Sportscaster of the Year honors on multiple occasions and was at the microphone for Maine's 1999 national championship win as he called the game-winning goal for Maine radio. VanRyn, meanwhile, is a seasoned New England broadcast professional and will lend insight into the Northeast-10 during broadcast as he currently serves as the league's Associate Commissioner for Strategic Communications. VanRyn owns nearly 20 years of broadcasting experience, calling numerous NCAA Division II men's basketball regionals, as well as the 2015 Elite Eight, and is also the play-by-play voice of Bentley University football.
Mike Murphy and Tom Gauthier will split the softball broadcasting roles. Murphy, who called the first SNHU baseball game on NESN in 2016, has over 20 years of radio experience calling a variety of different sports. The current radio voice of University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey, as well as UNH's color analyst for men's and women's basketball, Murphy is a five-time New Hampshire Sportscaster of the Year. Gauthier, meanwhile, owns nearly a decade of experience calling minor league baseball games, including most recently with the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, where he served as the executive director of broadcast/media relations.
NESNplus is seen in over 4 million homes on nearly every television provider in the six-state New England region. In addition to carrying select Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox games, NESNplus also carries a variety of college football, hockey and basketball games from major conferences across the country.
NESN National is the national television service of NESN that provides fans outside New England the best opportunity to follow the Red Sox, Bruins and other New England sports, particularly those who also watch Red Sox and Bruins games through MLB and NHL league packages. NESN National delivers NESN's Red Sox and Bruins pre and post-game shows, NESN Sports Today, New England college sports and Liverpool FC delayed broadcasts. NESN National is available in over 100 television markets via AT&T Uverse, Bright House Networks, Frontier Communications, Time Warner Cable and Verizon Fios. NESN programming is also available nationally via DirecTV and Dish Network.
A Boston-based video production company, Pack Network was founded in 2007 and specializes in affordable, high-definition video solutions throughout the Northeast.
