Freshman Makyla Lewellen (Zanesville, Ohio) carded an 86, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's golf team narrowly defeated Post University by two shots, 365-367, Thursday at Lake of Isles Golf Club & Resort in No. Stonington, Conn.
Lewellen, who finished eighth of 31 golfers at her first collegiate event on Sept. 4, placed second, overall.
Sophomore Brooke Barrett (Bedford, N.H.) shot a 90 in just her third collegiate round to finish third, overall, while junior Kaitlyn Lutinski (Derry, N.H.) was right behind in a tie for fourth with a 91.
Junior Kailey Coleman (No. Berwick, Maine) rounded out the Penmen scorers with a 98 to sit seventh.
Junior Morgan Mitchell (Charlton, Mass.) did not factor into the team score in her first collegiate outing but finished with a 101.
Notes:
-Freshman Rachel Bruno (Dedham, Mass.), playing as an individual, totaled a 114.
-Post's Amber Thompson-Newton earned individual medalist honors with an 80.
-Twelve golfers competed from the two institutions.
