The 19th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team played to a double-overtime scoreless deadlock with American International College on Saturday afternoon at Abdow Field.
Southern New Hampshire dominated much of regulation, putting up a 23-5 advantage in shots over the first 90 minutes. Senior Courtney Benson (Hopkinton, N.H.) had the first dangerous chance for the Penmen as she drilled the crossbar late in the 10th minute.
American Int'l did not put a shot on goal until the extra session, forcing senior goalkeeper Paige Salmon (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) to make her first save of the match 37 seconds into overtime on a try by Federica Frew. Johanna Englund followed up with a header in the 97th minute, but Salmon was again up to the task.
Benson, as she did twice in regulation, tested Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Mikayla Demanche with a shot on net that was saved in the 96th minute.
The Penmen generated the only two shots of the second overtime, with senior Trisha Luis (Lowell, Mass.) sending a shot just wide less than two minutes in before a scramble in front ended with senior Sydney Crema (Litchfield, N.H.) booting a ball just high.
Salmon made two saves, while Demanche stopped all 12 shots she faced.
