Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) stopped all eight shots she needed to, as the 24th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie against Assumption College on Tuesday night at Multi-Sport Stadium.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Rose's eight saves were one short of her career high and led to her fourth shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Shae Roys (No. Billerica, Mass.) put three of Southern New Hampshire's four first-half shots on net, as Rose was only forced to make one stop.
- The script flipped in the second stanza, with Rose needing to make the first five saves.
- Freshman Sydney Carney (Northborough, Mass.), who already is the owner of two overtime winners this season, had the only shot of the first OT, making a bid in the 100th minute.
- Carney forced Assumption goalkeeper Alexis Nason to make two more saves in the second overtime, as the Penmen tried to take advantage of three corner kick opportunities.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Nason kept a clean sheet with nine saves.
- SNHU held a 17-16 edge in shots, including 7-3 in the two extra sessions.
- The Greyhounds owned a 7-4 margin in corner kicks, including 7-1 through the first overtime.
NOTES
- SNHU, which is ranked 24th in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Poll, had its seven-match winning streak snapped, but is unbeaten in nine of its last 10, including eight straight.
- The Penmen are now 3-0-1 in overtime contests this season and are unbeaten in their previous 10 OT games over the last two years (4-0-6). In five seasons under head coach Elie Monteiro, SNHU is 11-5-6 (.636) in extra sessions.
- It is the first tie for SNHU since Nov. 3 of last season when it played to a 1-1 draw with Assumption in the semifinals of the NE10 Championship. The Penmen won on penalty kicks en route to their second conference crown.
- Southern New Hampshire is tied with in-state rival Franklin Pierce University atop the Northeast-10 standings. SNHU is now assured at least a tie for the eighth and final playoff spot and needs just one point in its final two conference matches, or one Assumption loss or tie in its final three to clinch a spot.
- The Penmen are now 30-8-6 (.750) over their last 44 matches dating back to the 2016 campaign.
UP NEXT
