BOX SCORE | RAPID REACTION WITH HEAD COACH ELIE MONTEIRO

When and Where: October 2, 2018 – Hooksett, N.H. (Penmen Stadium)
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 2, Merrimack College 1 (OT)
Records:
SNHU 8-3-0 (6-2-0 NE10), Merrimack 4-4-1 (2-4-1 NE10)

Junior Alexis Fruzzetti (Hanson, Mass.) scored the equalizer in the 77th minute and the overtime winner in the 100th minute to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Merrimack College on a rainy Tuesday evening at Penmen Stadium.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • It is Fruzzetti's second two-goal game of the season.
  • Graduate student Sydney Crema (Litchfield, N.H.) collected assists on both of Fruzzetti's goals.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) made four saves in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After SNHU controlled nearly the entire first half, it was Merrimack that chalked up the first truly dangerous chance midway through the 40th minute, as Kailee Stobbe took advantage of a Penmen defender that had slipped on the wet turf and went in alone on Rose, who dove to the turf and smothered the attempt.
  • Southern New Hampshire had the most dangerous chance in the opening half, however, as Crema gathered a terrific thru-ball and wound up alone on the doorstep with the ball on her foot, but a good diving save by Merrimack goalkeeper Erin Fulton and a clear of the rebound by the Warrior defense kept it scoreless.
  • Merrimack snapped the deadlock in the 74th minute, capitalizing on a failed clear by the Penmen when Nicole Langlois ended up with the ball on her foot at the top of the box before ripping a shot into the top left corner of the net.
  • SNHU would gain the equalizer midway through the 77th as Crema slotted a great pass into the left side of the box, where Fruzzetti ran onto it and hit a shot into the far top corner of the net to even the score, 1-1.
  • The Penmen had a great opportunity to go in front late in the 87th minute when senior Danielle Humphreys (Hebron, Conn.) found herself with the ball in front off a corner service, but her quick shot went just wide of the near right post.
  • SNHU again looked like it would steal a win with just over a minute left when junior Shae Roys (No. Billerica, Mass.) delivered a beautiful long pass from midfield, but the first touch by the Penmen forward caromed off her knee to the Merrimack defense.
  • The Warriors then looked to swoop in with just over 30 seconds remaining, as Gigi Guenther had a shot from in close, but it rang off the crossbar.
  • The Penmen finally finished it with just 57 seconds left in the first extra session, as Crema's pass from the left side of the box deflected off a defender to the front of the net where Fruzzetti was able to boot it past Fulton.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Fulton made eight saves for the Warriors.
  • SNHU outshot Merrimack, 17-9, including 8-3 in the opening half.
  • The Penmen also owned an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
