Freshman Dorthea Glorud (Brumunddal, Norway) registered three points on a goal and an assist to lead the 24th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team past Southern Connecticut State University, 2-0, Saturday night at Penmen Stadium.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Glorud found the back of the net for the third time in the last four games and now has nine points over the last five matches.
- Senior Danielle Humphreys (Hebron, Conn.) also scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
- Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) made two saves for her fifth shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern New Hampshire drew first blood midway through the 17th minute when Glorud slid a pass from right to left across the box for Humphreys, who hit a low shot past diving Southern Connecticut goalkeeper Abigail Allen and inside the right post.
- The score stayed that way into the second half until the 57th minute when Glorud chalked up a score of her own. Graduate student Sydney Crema (Litchfield, N.H.) made a run down the left flank before sending a long pass into the box for Glorud, who ran onto the ball and chipped it over a sliding Allen to stretch the Penmen lead to 2-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Allen stopped four of the six shots she faced for the Owls.
- SNHU held a 10-6 edge in shots, including 5-2 in the opening half.
- The Penmen also owned a 4-1 margin in corner kicks.
NOTES
- SNHU, which is ranked 24th in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Poll, is unbeaten in 10 of its last 11, including nine straight.
- Southern New Hampshire, which clinched a Northeast-10 postseason berth with the win, keeps pace with in-state rival Franklin Pierce University to remain atop the NE10 standings in a two-way tie.
- The Penmen are now 31-8-6 (.756) over their last 45 matches dating back to the 2016 campaign.
- SNHU also improves to 15-1-2 (.889) at home since the end of the 2016 season.
