Senior Morgan Mitchell (Charlton, Mass.) fired a 2-over 74 at the first round of the Penmen Columbus Day Intercollegiate Classic on Saturday, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's golf team placed second at Derryfield Country Club, behind the lowest round in the program's history.
INDIVIDUAL SCORERS
- Mitchell is tied for third, four shots off the pace.
- Freshman Hannah May (Phoenix, Ariz.) shot a 78 to tie for fifth.
- Sophomore Makyla Lewellen (Zanesville, Ohio) and freshman Anna Casagrande (Pelham, Mass.) each carded an 82 and are tied for 13th.
NOTES
- The 316 is the best round in program history, topping the 322 the Penmen totaled in the second round of the Granite State Invitational at Nashua Country Club on Monday.
- Senior Kaitlyn Lutinski (Derry, N.H.), who did not factor into the scoring, is tied for 16th with an 85.
- Junior Brooke Barrett (Bedford, N.H.), playing as an individual, is tied fifth with a 78.
- Senior Kailey Coleman (No. Berwick, Maine), freshman Halle Clark (Meriden, N.H.) and sophomore Rachel Bruno (Dedham, Mass.), also playing as individuals, totaled 88, 103 and 125, respectively.
- Merrimack College is in first place with a 300, which is 16 shots better than SNHU.
- Merrimack's Krystal Knight is three strokes ahead of the field with a 2-under 70.
- The Penmen Columbus Day Intercollegiate Classic is comprised of 33 student-athletes from six institutions.
