MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team will head downtown to renew its annual exhibition rivalry with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Toronto Blue Jays, on Tuesday, April 3 (5:30 p.m.) at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Admission to the exhibition game is free for all fans and Fisher Cats concessions will be open throughout the game.
"We are thrilled to continue our relationship with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats this season and excited to once again play them in an exhibition to open their season," said Anthony Fallacaro, SNHU Director of Athletics. "For our student-athletes and coaching staff to play against a professional organization like the Fisher Cats, at a beautiful park such as Northeast Delta Dental Stadium this season, it is not only a treat, but a great experience, as well. Our program has seen great success with the Major League Baseball Draft, in addition to free agent signings, so this game will provide yet another opportunity for Major League Baseball scouts to see our team competing with successful Double-A talent."
"We are very excited to be once again hosting the Penmen and officially kicking off our 15th season in Manchester with an exhibition game between the Fisher Cats and our great partners at Southern New Hampshire University," said Fisher Cats President, Mike Ramshaw. "The game against SNHU signals the true beginning of baseball season at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. When those lights come on and the team takes the field for the first time – there's nothing like it."
This will mark the second meeting in four seasons between the clubs. In the first meeting between the two teams, the Fisher Cats posted a 9-1 victory against the Penmen on April 7, 2015. The teams were scheduled to square off again the following year, but weather forced the game's cancellation, while dates last season did not match up. SNHU did take the field at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in 2016, scoring its own 9-1 win against Assumption College on April 17.
The 7-2 Penmen, ranked 11th in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Poll, are back in action Friday, March 9 (6 p.m.) when they kick off a five-game Florida trip against Bloomfield College at Santaluces High School in Lantana, Fla.
