Baseball Quartet Gains More All-Region Recognition from ABCA

Marshall, Varney gather First Team accolades

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Jackson Marshall (Hooksett, N.H.) and graduate student Cam Varney (Manchester, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team were selected as American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) East All-Region First Team honorees Wednesday, while sophomore Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) and junior Austin Trumpour (Jensen Beach, Fla.) garnered Second Team recognition.

Marshall, who was also honored with Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East All-Region Second Team, NE10 Northeast Division Rookie Hitter of the Year, NE10 All-Conference Second Team and NE10 All-Rookie Team accolades, made the First Team in the lone infield spot. One of three players to start all 48 games. Marshall batted .337 (63-187) with 15 home runs, 56 RBI and 39 runs scored, while slashing .437/.647/1.084. The five-time NE10 Rookie of the Week (Feb. 24, March 10, March 31, April 7, April 21) ranked second in the NE10 in home runs and total bases (121), third in RBI, slugging and hit by pitches (17), fourth in hits and OPS, eighth in fielding percentage (.995) and 10th in on-base percentage.

Varney, who was also a D2CCA East All-Region First Team, National College Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) East All-Region First Team and NE10 First Team pick, made the First Team as the lone relief pitcher. Varney went 3-2 with a conference-best seven saves and a 2.97 ERA, striking out 40 and walking 12, while yielding just 26 hits, over 36-and-a-third innings. Varney, who made a team-high 21 appearances, limited opponents to a .198 average.

Wachter was one of four outfielders to earn Second Team honors, adding to his accolades from the 2025 season that include D2CCA East All-Region Second Team, NCBWA East All-Region First Team, NE10 All-Conference First Team and NE10 All-Defensive Team. The two-time NE10 Player of the Week (March 10, April 21) made all 48 starts and hit .300 (57-190) with 15 home runs, 61 RBI and 50 runs scored, while producing a slash line of .440/.621/1.061. Defensively, Wachter made just one error in 119 chances for a .992 fielding percentage. Wachter led the NE10 in walks (44), while ranking second in home runs and RBI, third in total bases (118), fourth in runs scored and doubles (14), sixth in hits, slugging, OPS and stolen bases (13), and ninth in OBP.

Trumpour, who was one of four starting pitchers on the Second Team, was also a D2CCA East All-Region Second Team, NCBWA East All-Region Second Team and NE10 All-Conference First selection. Over 14 appearances, including 11 starts, he went 5-3 with a save and a 3.07 earned-run average, allowing 65 hits, striking out 80 and walking just 17 over 73-and-a-third innings. Opponents batted just .231 against the right-hander, who owned a WHIP of 1.12. Trumpour led the league in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.71) and walks allowed per nine innings (2.09), while ranking second in ERA and WHIP, fourth in strikeouts and innings pitched, fifth in wins, sixth in opposing batting average and hits allowed per nine (7.98), and seventh in strikeouts per nine (9.82). Trumpour received an ABCA East All-Region First Team selection a year ago.

The Penmen finished 32-16, including 18-7 in NE10 play, as they earned the No. 3 seed in the Northeast Division, advancing to the NE10 final.
