Senior Danielle Humphreys (Hebron, Conn.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the 24th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 3-1 triumph over No. 16 Long Island University-LIU Post for its first win of the season Sunday at the University of Bridgeport's Knights Field.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- The five points for Humphreys were a career high, while the two goals marked her second multiple-goal performance.
- Freshman Sydney Carney (Northborough, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal for what would prove to be the game winner.
- Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) made four saves to record her first collegiate win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Humphreys put the Penmen on the board just 6:40 into the contest when she intercepted a back pass and dribbled in before beating LIU Post goalkeeper Hillevi Eklow to make it 1-0.
- The score would stay that way until late in the 69th minute when Humphreys connected on a thru-ball into the middle of the box for Carney, who found the back of the net to double the SNHU lead.
- The Pioneers would jump on the board just over five minutes later when Kendra Oldroyd sent a long blast over Rose to trim the deficit in half.
- It would be Humphreys who would put it away, however, as she collected a deflected cross from junior Shae Roys (No. Billerica, Mass.) and deposited it into the back of the net with just 3:49 on the clock.
