Senior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) struck 4:13 into overtime to lift the ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- van der Doorn tallied her ninth goal of the season to pull into a tie for the team lead.
- Sophomore Emily Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) gained the equalizer late in the 11th minute of the opening quarter for her sixth of the season.
KEY MOMENT
- With 5:47 remaining in the first overtime, van der Doorn hammered home a feed from junior Hélène Servais (Brussels, Belgium) to send the Penmen to victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lisa Larsson opened the scoring 7:17 into the contest.
- Graduate student Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) earned her ninth win of the season after making a pair of saves.
- Suzanne Clarke racked up five stops for the Spartans.
