Women's Tennis Clinches Share of Regular-Season Title with 6-1 Win at New Haven

Freshman Selin Seyfettinoglu (Wiesbaden, Germany) was victorious in both of her matches, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team clinched a share of the Northeast-10 Regular-Season Championship with a 6-1 win at the University of New Haven on Saturday.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Seyfettinoglu breezed to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles against Lilia Rodriguez and also posted a No. 2 doubles win with classmate Mina Houge (Oslo, Norway), as the pair doubled up Kacie Banks and Stephanie Gonzalez, 6-3.
  • Freshman Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) held off Gonzalez, 6-3, 7-6, at No. 1 singles, in addition to combining with sophomore Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) for a 6-3 triumph at No. 1 doubles against Rodriguez and Nicole Mika. Etienne was also a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Mika at No. 3 singles.
  • Freshman Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) made quick work of Katherine MacPhail at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1. She also teamed with sophomore Elizabeth Dwyer (Cutchogue, N.Y.) to down MacPhail and Alexa Orlando, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles. Dwyer battled back against Orlando for a 1-6, 7-6, 10-3 win at No. 6 singles.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has now won eight consecutive matches.
  • SNHU clinches a share of the Northeast-10 Regular-Season Championship for the first time since the 2012-13 season and will await the results of Stonehill College's conference finale before discovering its seed for the Northeast-10 Championship. The Penmen and Adelphi University are currently tied atop the standings, with the Skyhawks a half-match behind.
  • Andrade remains undefeated at a perfect 11-0 this season in dual-match play.

  • Southern New Hampshire is back in action Sunday (October 13) when it plays host to Daemen College at 1 p.m.
