No. 9 Field Hockey Blanks New Haven to Set Single-Season Program Wins Record

Sophomore Meaghan Wile (Littleton, Mass.) scored twice and the ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team set a program record for wins in a season on Saturday, as the Penmen blanked the University of New Haven, 2-0.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Wile notched the first multi-goal game of her career to lead SNHU to its fifth consecutive victory.
  • Graduate student Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) turned aside the only two shots she faced to earn her second shutout of the season and No. 13 of her career.
KEY MOMENT
  • After a scoreless first quarter, Wile punched home her third goal of the year 8:12 into the second to provide Southern New Hampshire with all the offense it would need.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen outshot the Chargers by a 21-3 margin, which featured a 16-0 edge in the opening three quarters. Southern New Hampshire put 12 shots on frame while New Haven put two fourth-quarter attempts on target.
  • SNHU worked 16 penalty corners in the contest and surrendered just one to the hosts.
  • Natalie Shaker was saddled with the loss for the Chargers despite stopping 10 Penmen shots.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire broke its previous single-season wins record of 10, which was set by the 2018 team in a 6-0 win over New Haven.
  • Wile's goal was her fourth of the season and the fourth of her career.
  • After putting together a six-game winning streak from September 6 through September 25, the Penmen have now won five straight.
  • Southern New Hampshire's eight NE10 wins ties its program record for most conference victories in a season with last year's squad.

  • The Penmen continue Northeast-10 play on Wednesday (October 23) when they head back to the Constitution State for a 7 p.m. matchup with Southern Connecticut State University.
