Graduate student Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) stopped three shots but the third-seeded and sixth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team fell to top-seeded and third-ranked Saint Anselm College, 2-0, in the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Championship Final on Sunday.

KEY MOMENT

  • After the Hawks grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the first quarter, Ericka Meissner punched home her ninth goal of the season to give the hosts a two-goal cushion with 44 seconds remaining before the half.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Carly LaCasse set up Michelle Lemelin for the first goal of the contest at 8:39 of the first off the lone Saint Anselm penalty corner of the first quarter.
  • The Penmen outshot the Hawks, 10-7, on the afternoon while the hosts enjoyed a 5-3 edge in shots on cage.
  • SNHU worked seven penalty corners and surrendered five. All seven Penmen corners occurred over the final three quarters of play.
  • Julia Hand earned the clean sheet in the Saint Anselm goal after turning aside the three SNHU attempts she saw.

NOTES

  • Junior Hélène Servais (Brussels, Belgium) and senior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) were named to the All-Championship Team. van der Doorn tallied three points over the course of the Championship while Servias registered seven points in the three games.
  • The Penmen were making their first appearance in the NE10 Championship Final after picking up their first two postseason victories in program history this week. Southern New Hampshire outlasted Bentley University in overtime on Tuesday before rolling past St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday.
  • The loss snapped SNHU's 11-game winning streak that dated back to October 1. That loss was also a 2-0 setback at the hands of the then third-ranked Hawks on Larkin Field.
  • Saint Anselm, the nation's top defensive team, posts its 19th shutout of the season to extend its winning streak to seven-straight. The Hawks have allowed just four goals in 21 contests thus far in 2019.

WHAT'S NEXT

  • Southern New Hampshire will await word on a potential at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship when the selection show is aired on NCAA.com at 3 p.m. on Monday (November 11). The NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship is comprised of six teams – three each from the Atlantic and East Regions. Entering the NE10 Championship, the Penmen were ranked third in the East Region behind Saint Anselm and Adelphi University.
