Senior Morgan Mitchell (Charlton, Mass.) fired a program-record 71 at the opening round of the Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic on Monday, with the Southern New Hampshire University women's golf team sitting 12th after two rounds at River Landing Country Club.
INDIVIDUAL SCORERS
- Mitchell becomes the first Penmen to finish a round under par and breaks her own program record of 74 she set Oct. 6 of this season at the Penmen Columbus Day Intercollegiate Classic. Mitchell shot a 76 in the second round and is eighth, overall, with a 147 that is six shots off the pace.
- Freshman Hannah May (Phoenix, Ariz.) matched Mitchell's second-round 76, bettering her first trip through the course by two shots. She is tied for 29th with a 154.
- Sophomore Makyla Lewellen (Zanesville, Ohio) carded an 88 and then an 89 for a two-round total of 177.
- Freshman Anna Casagrande (Pelham, Mass.) rounded out the Penmen scorers with a 96 in the first round and a 91 in the second to total a 187.
NOTES
- Senior Kailey Coleman (No. Berwick, Maine), who did not factor into the scoring, is at 194 through the first 36 holes with a 98 and 96, respectively.
- Fellow senior Kaitlyn Lutinski (Derry, N.H.), playing as an individual, bettered her opening-round score by eight strokes with an 82 that gave her a two-round total of 172.
- The University of North Carolina Pembroke, which is hosting the tournament, leads after the first 36 holes with a 582, which is nine shots better than Carson-Newman University.
- UNC Pembroke's Katy Flax is the individual leader with a 3-under 141 that has her two strokes in front of Catawba College's Kaley Barts and Merrimack College's Krystal Knight.
- The Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic is comprised of 76 student-athletes from 14 institutions.
