Women's Volleyball Goes Back Over .500 with 3-0 Win at Saint Michael's

Graduate student Sara Montefameglio (Turin, Italy) dished 23 assists, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team scored a 3-0 road win at Saint Michael's College on Tuesday evening at the Ross Sports Center. Set scores were 25-17, 25-18, 25-21.

  • Montefameglio – 23 assists, 3 aces, 7 digs, 2 blocks
  • Junior Dai Thawnghmung (Lowell, Mass.) – 14 kills, .458 hitting, 6 digs
  • Junior Juliana Pacini (Sao Paulo, Brazil) – 12 kills, .333 hitting, 2 aces, 9 digs, 2 blocks
  • Freshman Chiara Di Valerio (Terni, Italy) – 5 kills, 3 aces, 2 digs
  • Freshman Deanne Wilson (Buffalo, N.Y.) – 14 digs, 4 assists
KEY MOMENTS
  • Montefameglio set the tone early with a pair of aces to begin the match, and three total as part of a 6-0 run to start. The Penmen would jump out to an 11-3 lead in the first set and cruise the rest of the way.
  • A pair of kills from Di Valerio helped the Penmen build a 7-1 advantage to open the second set. The score was tied at 18-all when three kills from Pacini powered a 7-0 rush that put the visitors up, 2-0, in the match.
  • SNHU jumped out to another 5-1 lead in the third and used three kills each from Thawnghmung and Pacini, as well as a pair of Di Valerio aces, to grab a 14-5 advantage that it would never look back from.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Senior Grace Pierce (Fairfax, Va.) posted four kills, an ace, three digs and two blocks.
  • Freshman Eyleen Dias (Plymouth, Mass.) collected 10 digs and served up a pair of aces.
  • Junior Ainsley Knox (Houston, Texas) chipped in nine assists and an ace.
  • Freshman Carmen Bernardis (Trieste, Italy) recorded three kills and two blocks.
  • SNHU outhit Saint Michael's in each of the three sets, as well as .183-.052 for the match.
  • The Penmen held advantages in blocks (8-6) and aces (13-8).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won three of its last four and four of its last six. The Penmen have also captured four of their last five NE10 contests, including three-in-a-row.
  • SNHU's 8-7 start to the season matches its same record through 14 contests in the 2019 campaign.
  • The Penmen have won 20 of the last 22 meetings against the Purple Knights, including 11 of 12 and five straight. All five wins during the current streak have come by a score of 3-0, with SNHU last dropping a set to Saint Michael's on Oct. 11, 2016 in a 3-1 road loss.
  • The 13 service aces for the Penmen are the most since they had 14 in a win versus Saint Anselm College on Aug. 26, 2018.
