INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team collected its seventh selection to the NCAA Tournament – and fourth straight – when the NCAA Selection Committee announced its field of 56 teams Monday evening.
Southern New Hampshire (13-3-1), which garnered an at-large bid, earns the East Region's No. 3 seed and will take on sixth-seeded Mercy College (10-4-4) in a first round match Thursday, Nov. 18 (3 p.m.) at Molloy College, which is one of the hosts of the East Regional. The contests will take place at the RVC Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. This marks the third time in the last four NCAA Championships the Penmen and Mavericks will meet, with Mercy holding a 1-0-1 advantage after advancing on PKs following a scoreless draw in 2019.
The winner of the SNHU/Mercy match will meet the victor of second-seeded Molloy (17-2-0) and the seventh-seeded University of Bridgeport (11-6-1) on Saturday, Nov. 20 (3 p.m.). The winner from that match will head to the highest remaining seed from the Atlantic Region to battle the team that emerges from the College of Saint Rose side of the bracket in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Dec. 2 or 3.
The quarterfinal round will take place at the same sites as the third round Dec. 4 or 5, while the semifinals and final will be played Dec. 9 and 11 at Switchbacks FC Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo., hosted by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Colorado Springs Sport Corp.
SNHU will be making its seventh appearance, overall, in the NCAA Tournament and carries in an all-time record of 1-3-3 (.357). The Penmen hold a 3-2-2 edge in the all-time series with the Mavericks, with the two teams playing to a 1-1 draw in Hooksett on Oct. 5. This will be the third meeting in the NCAA Championship between the two programs, with Mercy posting a 3-1 win in the second round during the 2017 season in the first clash. Both previous meetings have come with Mercy as the host.
