Freshman Aaron Gray (Providence, R.I.) poured in a career-high 29 points to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team to an 85-62 victory over Post University on Saturday afternoon at the Stan Spirou Field House.

  • Gray – 29 points (8-12 FG, 6-8 3-FG, 7-9 FT), 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
  • Junior Ryan Layman (Wrentham, Mass.) – 15 points (7-12 FG, 1-3 3-FG), 4 rebounds, 2 assists
  • Sophomore Jacari Sanders (San Antonio, Texas) – 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-2 FT, 4 rebounds, 4 assists
KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire opened the game with a 23-3 blitz over the opening 6:39, as five different Penmen scored during the stretch. Gray led the way with eight points – all of which came consecutively to cap the run. Sophomore Matt Becht (Vienna, Va.) nailed a pair of treys for six points and senior Corry Long (Cincinnati, Ohio) added five points. Post answered with a 10-2 run later in the half and the Penmen would take a 48-33 lead into the break.
  • SNHU opened the second half with a 15-2 run – powered by eight points from Layman and five from Gray – that gave it the largest lead of the afternoon at 63-35. Post would not get closer than 19 the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Becht tallied nine points (3-7 FG, 3-6 3-FG), four rebounds and four assists.
  • Freshman Derrick Grant (Plainfield, N.J.) posted six points (3-4 FG) and three blocks.
  • Long added five points (2-6 FG, 1-3 3-FG), seven boards and two assists.
  • Freshman Jordan Brathwaite (Silver Spring, Md.) chipped in four points (2-4 FG), two rebounds and a block.
  • SNHU outshot Post, 47.8 percent (32-67) to 35.6 percent (21-59), including 40.7 percent (11-27) to 29.2 percent (7-24) from beyond the arc.
  • The Eagles were plus-3 at the line and shot it better, 61.9 percent (13-21) to 58.8 percent (10-17).
  • SNHU narrowly won the glass (41-40), dominated the paint (40-20), featured a better assist-to-turnover ratio (19/5-11/11), scored more points off turnovers (19-10) and on the fast break (15-4), and scored more second chance points (16-12).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire is 4-0 for the fourth time in five years.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Post, 10-1.
  • Gray ranks fourth in the NE10 in scoring (20.5 ppg).

  • The Penmen return to action Tuesday, Nov. 23 (7:30 p.m.) when they travel across town to take on Saint Anselm College in a game that will air live on WGIR 610-AM.
