MANCHESTER, N.H. – Redshirt-junior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.) and graduate students Nick Artymowicz (Seaville, N.J.) and Wesley Tobin (Portsmouth, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team were selected as Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East All-Region First Team honorees Thursday, following a vote of the region's sports information directors.
Artymowicz, who was also chosen as a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East All-Region First Team selectio, in addidtion to being named the NE10 Northeast Division Pitcher of the Year and an NE10 All-Conference First Team pick earlier this month, has made seven appearances, including six starts, this season. Artymowicz has gone 7-1 with a 1.94 ERA over 41-and-two-thirds innings, as he has allowed just 28 hits, while striking out 65 and walking 22. Artymowicz allowed one run or fewer in four starts, in addition to striking out double digits in three appearances. The 6-foot-4-inch right-hander, who held opponents to a .188 batting average, leads the NE10 in wins, while ranking second in ERA and strikeouts, fourth in strikeouts per game (14.04) and eighth in innings pitched.
Redshirt-junior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.) was also an NCBWA East All-Region First Team and NE10 All-Conference First Team honoree, as he has hit .330 (35-106) with 10 home runs, 38 RBI and 33 runs scored. Mulcay, who made the First Team in the designated hitter slot, has produced an on-base percentage of .440 and slugged .708 in 30 games, as he has walked 21 times and collected 20 extra-base hits. Mulcay, who split his time between DH and catcher, has been charged with just two errors in 142 chances for a .986 fielding percentage. Mulcay ranks second in the league in home runs and RBI, fifth in slugging, doubles (10) and total bases (75), sixth in walks and seventh in runs scored. Mulcay became the program's career leader with his 22nd home run against Franklin Pierce University on May 16 and also currently sits fourth on the single-season list.
Grad student Wesley Tobin (Portsmouth, N.H.), who was an NCBWA East All-Region Second Team choice ando an NE10 First Teamer, has gone 3-1 with a 1.94 ERA in seven appearances and six starts. Over 41-and-two-thirds innings, which includes three complete games, Tobin has given up just 20 hits, while producing a 56/14 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Tobin, who put together a scoreless innings streak of 17-and-a-third from April 10-May 2, leads the league in shutouts (2), while placing second in ERA and complete games, fifth in strikeouts, sixth in strikeouts per game (12.10), 10th in innings pitched, 11th in batting average against (.138) and 14th in wins.
The Penmen (24-6) captured their third NE10 title last Friday and earned the top seed for the NCAA East Regional Championship, which begins Thursday (May 27) at Franklin Pierce University's Pappas Field. The Penmen open up at 7 p.m. against sixth-seeded Dominican (N.Y.) College.
