MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University Director of Athletics & Recreation
Anthony Fallacaro announced Thursday the department will discontinue the women's golf program from its offerings, effective at the end of the 2021-22 academic year.
The coaching staff and two current student-athletes, along with their families, were notified prior to the announcement.
"I reached this decision after careful consideration and a review of our current offerings, in addition to the landscape created by the pandemic," Fallacaro said. "We understand that this news is disappointing. We're so proud of our student-athletes and all they have accomplished at SNHU, and we're committed to supporting them throughout their SNHU experience and beyond."
Women's golf last competed as a team in the fall of 2019, as the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the spring 2020 and fall 2020 seasons. The squad did not have four active players on its roster to be eligible to compete as a team during the spring 2021 campaign.
While the program will not qualify to participate as a team during the 2021-22 season, the two remaining golfers will be allowed to compete as individuals if they choose. The University will honor the athletic aid agreements with current student-athletes for the duration of their time at SNHU.
