Men's Basketball Earns 83-65 Win Over NE10-foe Saint Rose

Becht posts first collegiate double-double

Freshman Aaron Gray (Providence, R.I.)  and sophomore Matt Becht (Vienna, Va.) scored 22 and 21, respectively, to lift the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team to a decisive 83-65 win over the College of Saint Rose Saturday afternoon. 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Gray – 22 points (8-12 FG), 6 rebounds, 3 steals, a block
  • Becht – 21 points (11 rebounds 9-15 FG, 3-8 3-FG), 2 rebounds, 3 steals
  • Freshman Ethan Okwuosa (No. Haven, Conn.) - set a career-high with 15 points (4-12 FG, 7-10 FT), 5 rebounds, 2 assistants
  • Junior Ryan Layman (Wrentham, Mass.) - 8 points (3-4 FG, 2-2 3pt FG)
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen slowly built a double-digit lead over the first 13 minutes and maintained a 10-point lead at 25-14 with 9:30 left in the frame before going on a 20-8 run to push the lead to 45-22.
  • SNHU was nearly a wire-to-wire  winner with its only deficit coming at 6-4 in the opening minutes of the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Becht posted his first collegiate double-double with 22 pts. and 11 rbs.
  • Junior Jackson Jordan (Potomac, Md.) set a career high with eight points (3-4 FG, 2-3 3pt FG)
  • SNHU shot nearly 50 percent for the game from the floor (30-61, 49.2%)
  • Adam Anderson and Shane O'Dell led four Golden Knights in double-digits with 15 points a piece.                              
  • The short-handed Penmen utilized a seven-man rotation with all seven factoring in scoring.
NOTES
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Saint Rose, 13-6, including three straight and 10-of-11.
  • SNHU captured back-to-back conference wins for the first time this season.
  • The Penmen continue to enjoy home-cooking with a 4-1 record at the Stan Spirou Fieldhouse.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Tuesday 1/25 (7:30 p.m.) when they travel to New Haven. SNHU's next home game is Monday, 1/31, when it plays host to Southern Connecticut State University.  The game will be part of an NE10 doubleheader with the #18/RV SNHU women.  Fans attending will be required to a face mask, regardless of vaccination status.  The concession stand will be closed.
