MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team was chosen second in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Friday afternoon.
Le Moyne secured four of eight first-place votes from head coaches and totaled 46 points overall – edging out SNHU for the top spot in the poll. Le Moyne finished the conference schedule with a perfect 8-0 record in the spring of 2021, going on to win its first-ever NE10 title with a 4-1 victory over Franklin Pierce.
SNHU recorded 44 points and three first-place votes to finish in second place in the poll. The Penmen, winners of four-straight NE10 titles from 2016 to 2019, went 7-1 in conference play during the 2021 season – earning the No. 2 seed in the NE10 Men's Tennis Championship.
Franklin Pierce, the 2021 NE10 finalist, placed third in the poll with 36 points and the final first-place vote. Adelphi came in fourth with 30 points and Bentley in fifth with 27 to round-out the top five
.
The well-balanced Penmen squad features a unique balance of season veterans as well as several new-look freshman and transfers. SNHU's captain is
Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico), who was named to the NE10 All-Conference Second Team at No. 4 singles, where he is 5-1 last season.
Zachary Duboulay (St. Lucia) joined Torres on the Second Team at the No. 6 singles position. Duboulay, who was also given an All-Rookie Team nod, was a perfect 5-0 on the year, with all of his matches coming at No. 6.
SNHU is scheduled to open the spring season on Friday, Feb. 4 at Boston College. The Penmen's first home match is Saturday, March 26 against NE10-foe Adelphi.
