Men's Tennis Falls Just Short in 4–3 Loss to Assumption

Preto, Molero and Castaneda earn singles wins.

Hooksett, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team dropped a tight 4–3 decision to Assumption in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at the Penmen's home courts.  SNHU earned three singles victories, but Assumption had won the decisive doubles point.
 

Key Moment 

  • Sophomore Vicente Preto (Sesimbra, Portugal) earned the first singles point with a straight-sets win at No. 1, rolling past Herman Aguirre, 6–3, 6–2 to square the match at 1-1 after the Greyhounds won the doubles point.

Notes

  • Sophomore Marcos Castaneda (Madrid, Spain) and junior Carlos Molero (Barcelona, Spain) won singles matches and sophomore Sebastian Eckert (Wernigerode, Germany) and freshman Tristan Chandler (APO, Armed Forces-Europe) teamed for a doubles win.
  • The Penmen saw a 10-match winning streak against Assumption snapped, although SNHU leads the all-time series 18-4.

The Penmen will return to action on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., continuing Northeast 10 Conference play against Adelphi University on the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
