Men's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Tie with Saint Rose

Mikel Cortazar Nets First Career Goal with Penmen

Graduate student Mikel Cortazar (Barakaldo, Spain) and junior Luca Shubitidze (Leipzig, Germany) tallied goals in SNHU's 2-2 tie with the College of Saint Rose on Tuesday afternoon in Albany, N.Y.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Cortazar scored his first goal with SNHU less than three minutes into the contest on a play that started with a corner kick.  He collected the ball on the right side of the field, and a blast found the upper right corner of the net.
  • SNHU doubled its lead at 55:20 on Shubitidze's fifth of the season.  The Penmen tossed a pass in front of the net that the Golden Falcons were not able to clear.  Shubitidze was able to get a head on the ball and knock it in for a 2-0 lead.
  • Saint Rose scored its two goals about three minutes apart with about 15 minutes to play.  Hilman Halldorsson scored on a penalty kick, and Nico Faretta tied the game at 76:23 with his first goal of the season.

  • Neal started his ninth consecutive game in net. 
  • Saint Rose goalie Tomas Rozman made six saves.
  • SNHU outshot Saint Rose, 15-13, including 6-3 in the opening half.

  • SNHU is now unbeaten in six of its last seven contests (3-1-3).
  • The Penmen are 19-1-4 against Saint Rose all-time, although the teams have now played to a draw the last four times they have met.
