Penmen Rally in Second Half To Beat Southern Connecticut 2-1

Sophomore Colin Milliken (Easton, Mass.) scored off a rebound of a shot by freshman Philipp Hermann (Bruckmuehl, Germany) in the 86th minute to give SNHU a 2-1 win over Southern Connecticut State in Saturday's Homecoming contest at Ouellette Stadium.

KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen trailed for more than half of the contest after Southern Connecticut State took a 1-0 lead at 24:49 on a goal by Raffaele Ciarleglio.
  • SNHU was able to tie the game in the 61st minute on Garcia's goal.   A deflected ball fell out of the hands of Owl netminder Devin Juan, and Garcia heeled the ball into the empty net behind for a 1-1 tie.
  • Thwarted in multiple second half opportunities, the Penmen finally found the game-winner when a shot by Hermann carried out to the right side for Milliken's blast at 85:24.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU outshot Southern Connecticut 23-4, including 14-1 in the second half.
  • The Penmen had a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.
NOTES
  • Milliken's goal was his first of the season.  He had also scored once in 2021.
  • The Penmen are undefeated in seven of the last eight contests to pull into second place in the NE10. 
  • Southern Connecticut leads the all-time series with the Penmen 30-18-8.   SNHU is 11-2 in the series since 2011.

  • The Penmen will play at Assumption University on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m. 
  • The next home contest will be next Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m. against Franklin Pierce University.  It will be Candia Youth Soccer Night at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium.
