Becht Leads Four In Double Figures In 81-69 Win at Molloy

SNHU picks up second consecutive win to improve to 2-1

Junior Matt Becht (Vienna, Va.) led four Penmen in double figures with 19 points as SNHU won 81-69 at Molloy College on Wednesday night.


STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Becht – 19 points (7-14 FG, 4-8 3-FG, 1-2 FT), 6 rebounds, 3 steals
  • Junior Noah Kamba (Lynn, Mass.) – 18 points (4-12 FG, 4-10 3-FG, 6-6 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals
  • Sophomore Ethan Okwuosa (No. Haven, Conn.) – 14 points (4-9 FG, 1-5 3-FG, 5-5 FT, 15 rebounds, five assists, 1 block, 1 steal
  • Sophomore Evan Guillory (Springfield, Mo.) – 13 points (6-13 FG, 1-2 FT), 5 rebounds, 1 block, 2 steals
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen erased a 10-4 deficit to start the game by going on a 9-0 run. A three-pointer by sophomore Derrick Grant (Plainfield, N.J.) with 12:39 left in the half gave SNHU its first lead.
  • SNHU would extend the lead to 26-13 before the Lions rallied to close the first half on a 20-4 run to give Molloy the 33-30 halftime lead.
  • A free throw and a lay-up by Guillory, followed by a three- pointer by Okwuosa put the Penmen in front 36-33, and they did not trail from that point on.
  • The Penmen hit four consecutive three-point field goals, three by Becht, and one by Kamba, to take a 59-41 lead with 10:31 to play.
  • Molloy closed the gap to seven points with 3:11 to play, but Kamba hit a pair of free throws and Becht nailed another trey to help the Penmen stay in front.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU shot 50-percent from the field in the second half (16-32) after struggling in the first half at 30.8% (12-39). 
  • The Penmen also improved from three-point range in the second half, hitting 8-of-16 after going just 2-for-16 in the first half.
  • Okwuosa recorded the first double-double of his career with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
  • Becht missed a free throw with 42 seconds left, ending a string of 46 consecutive made free throws dating back to January 14, 2022. 
NOTES
  • The Penmen improve to 3-0 against Molloy.  The teams last met on November 10, 2019.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • SNHU will travel to Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, Nov.19 (3:30 p.m.) in the Northeast-10 opener.
  • The first home game for the Penmen is Tuesday, Nov. 22 (7:30 p.m.) when they play host to Bentley University.
