KEY MOMENTS
- Southern New Hampshire jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening four-plus minutes, but a 7-0 run from Southern Connecticut near the end of the first half gave it a 29-25 lead. SNHU would cut the deficit in half to 29-27 at the break.
- The Owls built a 47-39 advantage nearly nine minutes into the second half, but the Penmen answered with a 15-2 blitz to seize a 54-49 lead with 5:46 remaining. Southern Connecticut would get to within 56-54 with 39 seconds left, but two Becht free throws with one tick on the clock sealed it before the Owls hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore Evan Guillory (Springfield, Mo.) posted six points (3-10 FG) and nine rebounds.
- Junior Noah Kamba (Lynn, Mass.) netted five points (1-4 FG, 1-4 3-FG, 2-2 FT).
- Freshman Sam Kodi (Manchester, N.H.) chipped in two points (1-4 FG), three rebounds and two assists.
- SCSU outshot SNHU, 45.3 percent (24-53) to 37.7 percent (20-53), including 38.9 percent (7-18) to 26.7 percent (4-15) from beyond the arc.
- SNHU was plus-12 from the stripe and shot it better, 82.4 percent (14-17) to 22.2 percent (2-9).
- The Penmen dominated the glass (39-24) and held edges in second chance points (14-11) and points off turnovers (15-13), while the Owls narrowly won the paint (28-26) and featured a better assist-to-turnover ratio (10/16-7/21).
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has now won three-in-a-row after dropping its opener.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with SCSU, 55-25, and has won three of the last four. The victory snaps a three-game road losing skid against the Owls. The last time the Penmen had won at Southern Connecticut was Feb. 28, 2016 (107-104 OT) in an NE10 Championship quarterfinal.
