Men's Basketball Has Three-Game Win Streak Snapped with 78-60 Loss to #19 Bentley

Sophomore Evan Guillory (Springfield, Mo.) led three scorers in double figures with 16 points, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team was handed a 78-60 defeat by 19th-ranked Bentley University on Tuesday night at the Stan Spirou Field House.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Bentley held a 9-8 lead less than four minutes into the game before it went on a 13-4 run to open up a 22-12 advantage with 12:45 remaining in the first half. An 11-2 flurry later in the frame would extend the Falcon lead to 40-24 with 3:02 on the clock. The margin was a half-high 17 at 43-26 with under a minute to play when Southern New Hampshire scored the final seven points of the half, including a half-court heave at the buzzer from Okwuosa to trim the halftime Penmen deficit to 43-33.
  • Bentley opened the second half with a 17-0 blitz over the initial 6:28 to balloon its lead to the largest of the night at 60-33. SNHU answered with a 17-4 counter-run – led by seven points from Okwuosa and four from Guillory – that slashed its deficit to 66-52 with 6:34 to play. The Penmen would get as close as 72-60 with 2:45 remaining and had a chance to take it to single digits, but Bentley would score the final six to seal it.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Sophomore Jordan Brathwaite (Silver Spring, Md.) scored an efficient five points (2-2 FG, 1-1 3-FG) in seven minutes off the bench.
  • Bentley outshot SNHU, 44.1 percent (26-59) to 36.8 percent (25-68), including 35.3 percent (6-17) to 26.3 percent (5-19) from beyond the arc. Bentley was also plus-15 at the line, despite SNHU shooting it better, 83.3 percent (5-6) to 76.9 percent (20-26) in its limited trips to the charity stripe.
  • The Falcons owned the glass (49-29), narrowly won the paint (32-20), scored more second chance points (12-7), points off turnovers (10-5) and on the fast break (7-2), while also turning in a better assist-to-turnover ratio (11/10-5/7).

  • Southern New Hampshire has its three-game winning streak halted.
  • Bentley, which is receiving votes in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Coaches Poll and ranked 19th in the D2SIDA Division II Media Poll, leads the all-time series with SNHU, 32-27. The teams have split the last 22 meetings, but the Falcons have captured six of the most recent eight, including four straight. Bentley has also won three of the last four tilts in Manchester, including two-in-a-row.
