Balanced Effort Sends Women's Basketball to 75-58 Win at Saint Rose

Timberlake leads four in double figures

Senior Adriana Timberlake (Braintree, Mass.) dropped in 17 points, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team cruised to a 75-58 victory at the College of Saint Rose on Tuesday evening at Nolan Gymnasium.

  • Sophomore Jess Knight (Hanover, Mass.) – 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-4 FT), 11 rebounds
  • Senior Jenna Roche (Braintree, Mass.) – 12 points (5-8 FG, 2-3 FT), 8 rebounds, 5 assists
  • Senior Ariana Koivisto (Pomfret, Conn.) – 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-4 3-FG), 4 rebounds 
KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire led by two nearly five minutes in when nine straight, including the final four from Timberlake, extended the lead to 20-9 with 3:19 left in the opening quarter. Saint Rose would score 10 of the final 15 to trim its deficit to 25-19 at the end of one.
  • The Golden Knights would get as close as 26-25 at the 6:06 mark of the second quarter, but six-in-a-row from the Penmen nudged the lead to seven at 32-25 with 3:12 to go before the break. Saint Rose scored the final four of the half to go into the locker room trailing, 36-33.
  • SNHU opened the second half with nine straight points, including five from Koivisto, to balloon its lead to 45-33 less than two minutes in. The Penmen would bring a 58-44 lead to the final frame.
  • Saint Rose would climb to within as close as nine at the midway point of the fourth quarter, but a balanced 12-3 blitz, which featured five different scorers, gave SNHU its largest lead of the night at 75-57 with 35 seconds on the clock. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Graduate student Mia Roy (Bedford, N.H.) tallied six points (2-3 FG, 2-2 FT), three rebounds and four assists.
  • Freshman Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) netted six points (2-6 FG, 2-2 FT) and grabbed three boards.
  • Junior Julia Colby (So. Paris, Maine) chipped in five points (2-5 FG, 1-2 FT).
  • SNHU outshot Saint Rose, 47.6 percent (30-63) to 35.9 percent (23-64), including 27.8 percent (5-18) to 20 percent (3-15) from beyond the arc, and 71.4 percent (10-14) to 52.9 percent (9-17) from the stripe.
  • The Penmen captured the glass (40-37), won the paint (40-32), scored more points off turnovers (12-6) and on the fast break (16-8), and featured a more impressive assist-to-turnover ratio (16/10-6//10). The Golden Knights recorded more second chance points (14-8).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won four of its last five, including three straight.
  • SNHU has now tied the all-time series with Saint Rose, 16-16, after winning its fifth straight against the Golden Knights.
  • Knight notched her third straight double-double, and fifth of the season. During the three-game double-double streak, she is posting 16.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
  • Knight has scored in double figures in all seven games this season.
  • After failing to score in double digits the first four games of the season, Roche has now done so in three straight, averaging 11.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists per contest during the stretch.
