Men's Basketball Topples Saint Anselm 71-62

Becht, Brathwaite Lead the Penmen Tuesday Night

(Manchester, N.H.) - Sophomore Matt Becht (Vienna, Va.) tallied a game-high 19 points and freshman Jordan Brathwaite (Silver Spring, Md.) set a new career-high for the second consecutive game with 17, helping lead SNHU to a 71-62 Queen City Cup win over rival Saint Anselm College on Tuesday night at the Stan Spirou Field House.

  • Becht - 19 points (5-20 FG, 3-14 3-PT, 6-6 FT), 6 rebounds
  • Brathwaite - 17 points (6-9 FG, 3-4 3-PT, 2-2 FT), 4 rebounds
  • Sophomore Noah Kamba (Lynn, Mass.) 14 points (5-14 FG, 3-4 FT), 3 rebounds
  • Senior Corry Long (Cincinnati, Ohio) - 10 points (5-7 FG), 6 rebounds
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen took the lead for the first time in the contest at 19-17 on a turn around shot by Becht with 9:20 remaining, and would not trail for the rest of the half.
  • Becht drained a three-pointer off the backboard, and Brathwaite added a trey as the Penmen opened a nine-point lead 36-27 at the start of the second half.  
  • Brathwaite drained a three with 2:02 to play to put the Penmen up 59-49, and SNHU hit free throws down the stretch to finish the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU held a decisive advantage in bench points at 33-11.
  • The Penmen shot 25-for-67 for the game (37.3%) with 9-of-32 (28.1%) makes from beyond the arc.
  • Saint Anselm was 25-for-66 (37.9%) and 5-for-22 on its three-point field goals.
  • The Penmen hit on 12-14 free throws (85.7%) to just 7-for-17 (41.2%) for the Hawks.
  • Saint Anselm pulled down 45 rebounds, while SNHU had 42.
NOTES
  • SNHU snapped a six-game losing streak to the Hawks, earning a split of the season series.
  • The Penmen, battling for a home game in the upcoming Northeast-10 tournament, improved to 8-6 in conference play.  
  • The Penmen improved to 7-1 at the friendly confines of the Stan Spirou Field House.
  • The Queen City Cup standings show SNHU leading 13-7.  
WHAT'S NEXT
  • SNHU will head to the University of New Haven on Thursday night for a make-up NE10 contest.  It will be part of a doubleheader with the SNHU women.
  • The Penmen will host Adelphi University on Mon. 2/14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Stan Spirou Field House.  
  • Fans attending will be required to wear a face mask, regardless of vaccination status.  The concession stand will be closed.
