SNHU Wins 6-3 as Carbonneau Homers Again

Penmen Defeated Seton Hill To Start Play Tuesday

(Winter Haven, Fla.) - Senior Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) homered in the top of the sixth inning as SNHU went on to a 6-2 win over previously undefeated Seton HIll University in the first of two scheduled games on Tuesday in Winter Haven, Fla.  Graduate student Chloe Griffin went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Penmen, who won for the third straight time in Florida.
 
GAME 1:  SNHU 6 Seton Hill 2
  • The Griffins scored a pair of runs in the early innings to take a 2-0 lead, which they carried to the top of the sixth behind starter Morgan Ryan.
  • Sophomore Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) started in the circle for the third time on the trip.  She lasted into the third inning, when lifted in favor of freshman Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.)  Hammond worked 4.1 scoreless frames to earn her second win.
  • The Penmen took the lead with a two-out rally in the sixth.  Sophomore Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) singled, scoring on a single by sophomore Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.)  Carbonneau then hit her second homer in two days, a two-run blast that put the Penmen up 3-2.
  • A two-out bases-loaded double by Griffin in the top of the seventh inning gave SNHU some breathing room.

NOTES
  • The Penmen improve to 1-1 all-time against Seton Hill.  
  • The home run for Carbonneau was the 13th of her career.   
  • Griffin leads the team with a .400 average with 10 hits in 25 AB.  
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen are scheduled to play a pair of nationally ranked teams on Thursday, March 10 in Winter Haven.  First up is a game at 10 a.m. against #7 Grand Valley State.  The Penmen will then take the field against #8 Augustana (S.D.) at 12:15 p.m.
  • The first games at the SNHU Softball Field are scheduled for Thursday, March 24 vs. Queens (NY).
