(Hooksett, N.H.) - Home runs from graduate student Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) and senior Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) helped lift SNHU to a 10-4 win over Franklin Pierce on Tuesday in the second game of a doubleheader. The Ravens, who lost for only the second time this season, had won the opener 4-2.
GAME 1 - Franklin Pierce 4-2
- The Ravens jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning after a double from Melissa Konopinski and an RBI single from Gina Hinckley.
- FPU scored again in the top of the third to extend the lead to 2-0 when Bella Williams scored on an RBI single from Lita Vorseth.
- The Penmen bats got going in the bottom of the third when they cut the lead in half on a double from junior Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) to score sophomore Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.)
- Franklin Pierce would extend the lead again in the top of the fifth after a single from Bella Williams and a double from Gina Hinckley followed by a sac fly from Ashley Cangiano and a single from Lita Vorseth to score both runners, to go ahead 4-1.
- The Penmen rallied in the fifth to score one more on an RBI single to center field from sophomore Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine), but it was not enough to overcome the Ravens.
- The Penmen had five hits in the opener against winning pitcher Sabrina Gonzalez (W, 9-0), and Abbey Primavera who secured her fifth save of the season.
- Sophomore Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) took the loss to fall to 4-4, pitching the first four innings. Freshman Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.) worked the final three frames.
GAME 2 - SNHU 10-4
- SNHU had another slow start to begin game two, at the plate and in the field – three fielding errors allowed an early Ravens lead at the top of the second inning, 1-0.
- The Penmen rallied for a monster fifth inning scoring seven runs on seven hits with thirteen at-bats. Junior Abi Gray (Litchfield, N.H.) led off with a single to center, followed by a single from Garczynski and three-run homerun from Griffin to take the lead 4-1. Dimauro walked, Dickinson singled and Carbonneau hit a 2-run RBI single to expand the lead to 6-1. Senior Brittany Mota (Lowell, Mass.) followed with another single to left field, and sophomore Ari Ferrier (Middleboro, Mass.) singled to score Carbonneau and load the bases. Garczynski earned a walk with the bases loaded to earn SNHU's final run in the fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead.
- The Ravens answered with a pair of singles in the top of the sixth from Junior Melissa Konopinski and Freshman Bella Williams, and a three-run home run from Hinckley to make it 8-4.
- A two-run homer from Carbonneau in the bottom of the sixth secured the home win for the Penmen.
- Griffin pitched five and two-thirds, improving to 4-4 on the season.
NOTES
- Garczynski went 4-for-6 at the plate on the day, also drawing a pair of walks.
- Griffin tallied her third homerun of the season while Carbonneau notched her fourth on the season.
- Sophomore Ari Ferrier earned her first career RBI in the win against the Ravens.
- SNHU's ten runs in the nightcap is a season high for the Penmen.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with the Ravens 60-27.
