(Colchester, Vt.) - Senior Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) hit a pair of two-run homers to lead SNHU to a 9-5 win over Saint Michael's College and a sweep of Monday's NE10 doubleheader. The Penmen won the opener 7-1 behind a one-hitter from sophomore Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine).
GAME 1 – SNHU 7-1
- McKechnie (W, 8-6) nearly recorded a one-hit shutout, but the Purple Knights scored in the bottom of the seventh after a walk and a pair of wild pitches.
- Sophomore Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) walked in the first, and moved to second on a wild pitch. An error on a fly ball off the bat of Carbonneau allowed Gifford to score for a 1-0 lead.
- Gifford singled in the third, scoring on an error. Sophomore Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.), who reached on the play, scoring on an RBI single by graduate student Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine).
- The Penmen scored four more runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 7-0 lead. Gifford picked up one RBI when hit with the bases loaded, and Carbonneau had an RBI single.
GAME 2 – SNHU 9-5
- The Penmen jumped out to another quick lead in the second game. A two-out single by Dimauro was followed by Carbonneau's first homer. Griffin then doubled, sophomore Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) singled, and freshman Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) laced a two-run double to left center for a 4-0 lead.
- Saint Michael's picked two runs back up in the bottom of the inning on a home run by Jenna Devens, her eighth of the season.
- The Penmen added another run on a bunt by senior Brittany Mota (Lowell, Mass.) in the top of the fourth, a key run, as the Purple Knights battled back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 5-5. Devens drove in two of the runs with a single, giving her a four RBI game.
- Resetar's single plated two runs in the top of the fifth, and Carbonneau's second homer in the top of the sixth gave the Penmen a 9-5 lead.
- Freshman Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.) worked 6.1 innings in relief to earn the win, improving to 7-4. She allowed three runs, all unearned, striking out three.
NOTES
- Carbonneau moves into a tie for tenth on the all-time home run list with 17. It was the first multi-homer game of her career. She is tied with Dickinson for the team lead with 23 RBI.
- Resetar finished the doubleheader 4-for-8 with five RBI.
- The Penmen have scored 37 runs over the past five games on 55 hits, which includes nine doubles, three triples, and four homers.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with Saint Michael's 44-10, and have won the last 12 meetings.
- The Penmen currently sit in fourth place in the NE10 with a 14-8 league mark. The top eight teams will qualify for the NE10 tournament.
