MANSFIELD, Mass. - Senior Jordan Butters (Beverly, Mass.) and graduate student Ai Inoue (Tokyo, Japan) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team were chosen as the NE10 Player of the Week and the NE10 Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for the period ending Sept. 18, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Butters registered four points on a goal and two assists during a 2-0-0 week for the Penmen. Butters assisted on a back-breaker of a goal that made it 2-0 just 30 seconds before halftime in an eventual 3-0 win over Daemen University on Wednesday, and then notched a goal and a helper in Saturday's 3-1 victory against Assumption University. Butters opened the scoring with a goal in the 38th minute and then helped set up the strike that all but sealed it in the 81st minute.
Inoue anchored a Penmen backline that allowed just one goal during the week. as SNHU outscored its two opponents, 6-1, and outshot them, 39-11, including 18-8 in shots on target. Assumption's 51st-minute goal was the first SNHU had allowed in five games to begin the year, snapping the scoreless streak at 411:39.
Butters, Inoue and the Penmen are back in action Wednesday, Sept. 21 (7 p.m.) when they take on Franklin Pierce University.
