Men's Golf Storms Back to Win Penmen Fall Invite

Conti, Rollins power the surge with matching 3-unders

Senior Matt Conti (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Evan Rollins (Laconia, N.H.) both fired a 3-under 69 in the final round of the Penmen Fall Invitational on Tuesday, leading a 12-stroke swing that saw the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team rally to win its event at Beaver Meadow Golf Course.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS
  • Conti, whose 72 had him in a 10th-place tie following the opening round, climbed the individual leaderboard to finish second with a 3-under 141 that left him one shot off the pace.
  • Rollins was eight shots better than his previous round, tying for fifth, overall, with a 2-over 146.
  • Freshman Sean Dully (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) shaved a stroke off with his second-round 73, totaling a 147 that tied him for ninth.
  • Senior Jeff Liss (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) rounded out the Penmen scorers with a 75 that tied him for 17th with a 149.
NOTES
  • Sophomore Jack Pepin (Plaistow, N.H.) did not factor into the team scoring with another 79. He finished with a 158.
  • Playing as an individual, junior Alex Korkuc (So. Setauket, N.Y., who tied for fourth with a 1-under 71 Monday, added a 77 to tie for 14th with a 148.
  • Senior Jared Mscisz (Danvers, Mass.), also playing as an individual, posted an 83 to tabulate a 160.
  • Junior Nick Tufts (Auburn, N.H.) was five shots better with his 79 and finished with a 163.
  • SNHU (583), which sat in the third place following the first round, turned an eight-shot deficit into a four-stroke win. Assumption University (587) was second, while Le Moyne College (596), which led after the first 18 holes, placed third.
  • Merrimack College's Patrick McCarthy earned individual medalist honors with a 4-under 140 (71/69).
  • Rollins wound up collecting a tournament-high 10 birdies, while Liss (29) and Conti (27) finished first and second in pars.
  • The Penmen Fall Invitational was comprised of 84 golfers from 15 different institutions.

  • The Penmen return to action Saturday, Oct. 1 for the Northeast-10 Championship at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y.
