NO. ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team was picked to finish third in the Northeast 10 Championship, according to the league's Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll released Friday. The NE10 Championship is set for Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 8-9, at Candia Woods Golf Links in Candia, N.H., and will be contested as a two-day, 54-hole tournament.
The defending NE10 champions, the Penmen collected 25 points to place behind Adelphi University (36) and Assumption University (31). Adelphi earned six first-place votes, while Assumption received the other first-place ballot. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their own teams. Following SNHU in the poll were Bentley University (20), Saint Anselm College (16), Franklin Pierce University (11) and American International College (8).
SNHU enters the championship riding momentum after winning its own Penmen Fall Invitational at Concord Country Club. Senior Evan Rollins (Laconia, N.H.) was named NE10 Player of the Week after claiming medalist honors at the rain-shortened tournament hosted by AIC.
The Penmen have captured five conference championships overall. Their last back-to-back titles came in 2001 and 2002.
