Penmen Down Hawks 71-63 in Women's Basketball

Knight's Double-Double and Timberlake's 19 lead SNHU

Junior Jess Knight (Hanover, Mass.) contributed a double-double and senior Adriana Timberlake (Braintree, Mass.) added 19 points as SNHU defeated Saint Anselm 71-63 on Wednesday at the Stan Spirou Field House.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Timberlake – 19 points (8-20 FG, 3-6 3-PT), 2 rebounds, 5 assists
  • Knight – 15 points (7-15 FG, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds, 2 blocks
  • Senior Ariana Koivisto (Pomfret, Conn.) – 15 points (5-11 FG, 3-4 3-PT, 2-4 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks
KEY MOMENTS
  • Saint Anselm opened the game with a 9-0 run, but SNHU would take its first lead at 16-13 on Koivisto's three-pointer.  The teams were tied at the end of the first quarter at 18-18.
  • The Penmen opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run and carried a 35-31 lead into the locker room.
  • The teams exchanged the lead eight times in the third quarter, with Knight hitting a three-point play late in the period to help give the Penmen a 52-50 lead turning for home.
  • The Hawks took a 53-52 lead early in the fourth quarter, but SNHU responded with a run of 8-0 and did not give up the lead again.   The Penmen hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final 36 seconds to secure the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Saint Anselm hit 38.6% (22-57) to 37.9% for the Penmen (25-66).
  • The Penmen hit 7-15 from three-point range compared to 3-14 for the Hawks.
  • The Penmen were outrebounded 42-38 but had a 13-11 advantage on offensive boards.
  • From the line, the Hawks were 80% (16-20).  SNHU was 77.8% (14-18).
  • Saint Anselm turned the ball over 16 times to just nine for the Penmen.  SNHU had a 12-6 advantage on points off turnovers.
NOTES
  • SNHU has won 11 of its last 12 games and sits at 9-2 in the NE10 play.  The Penmen are tied for first in the NE10 with Bentley University and Assumption University.
  • The Penmen won both meetings with the Hawks, but trail the all-time series 52-23.
  • SNHU improves to 34-10 (.773) since the start of the 2021-22 season.
  • Timberlake has now scored at least 10 points in 15 of the 16 games this season.
  • Knight has nine double-doubles in the 14 games in which she has played.
