Berling, Williams Sweep NE10 Weekly Accolades

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team was named the NE10 Player of the Week and freshman Jaden Williams (Green Acres, Fla.) was chosen as the NE10 Rookie of the Week, both for the period ending Oct. 1, the league office announced Tuesday.

Berling went 5-1, including 3-0 at No. 1 singles, during a 3-0 week for the Penmen. Berling was a 6-3, 6-2 winner against Bentley University's Max Bonte on Wednesday, pulled out a 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 10-4 victory over Eastern Nazarene College's Franco Milivinti on Thursday and cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win versus Post University's Gustavo Kerber on Sunday. Berling and graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) recorded a pair of wins at No. 2 doubles. They made quick work of Eastern Nazarene's Carlos Gallardo and Dmitrii Semenov, 6-1, and then doubled up Post's Josh Cronje and Kerber, 6-3.

Williams won his collegiate singles debut with a 0-6, 6-2, 10-8 win over Eastern Nazarene's Javier Bejarano.

Berling is 6-2 in singles play this season, including 4-1 at the top flight and 2-1 in league action. He is 5-3 in doubles. Williams in 1-1 in singles action.

Berling, Williams and the Penmen return to action Saturday, Oct. 14 (11 a.m.) when they play host to Franklin Pierce University at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
