Penmen Suffer First Setback of Young Season

Graduate student Adriana Timberlake (Braintree, Mass.) scored a game-high 16 points, but SNHU dropped a 57-51 decision at Post University on Sunday afternoon in Waterbury, Conn.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Timberlake – 16 points (6-22 FG, 2-16 3-FG, 2-2 FT), 7 rebounds, 7 assists
  • Senior Jess Knight (Hanover, Mass.) – 11 points (5-16 FG, 1-2 FT), 9 rebounds, 3 steals
  • Sophomore Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) – 9 points (3-11 FG, 1-5 3-FG, 2-3 FT), 5 rebounds, 2 assists
  • Senior Julia Colby (So. Paris, Maine) – 7 points (2-7 FG, 1-4 3-FG), 4 rebounds, 3 steals
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen were trailing 15-5 in the final minute of the first quarter, but hit a pair of layups by Knight and freshman Abby Wager (Mansfield, Mass.) to make it 15-9.
  • SNHU trailed 24-17 at halftime, shooting just 21.9 percent from the field including 1-13 from three-point range. 
  • A jumper by Knight with 5:23 to go in the third quarter brought the Penmen to within 28-27, but Maya Klein responded with one of her four three-pointers  in response and Post took a 37-33 lead to the fourth quarter.
  • SNHU drew even at 37-37 on a Gordon free throw with 8:00 to play, but Post answered with a five-point run and held the lead the rest of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Wager recorded five points (2-5 FG, 1-3 3-FG) and three rebounds.
  • Junior Sydnie DeVries (Monson, Mass.) added three points and pulled down seven rebounds.
  • Post finished 22-54 (40.7%) on its field goals including 5-16 (31.3) from three-point range.  The Penmen shot 19-69 (27.5%) and 5-33 (15.2) from beyond the arc.
  • The Penmen had a slim advantage on total rebounds (44-43) and a 19-9 edge on offensive rebounds.  SNHU outscored Post 14-9 on second-chance points.
  • The Penmen were outscored by the Eagles 28-24 in the paint.  Post had a 22-15 advantage on points off turnovers, although the Eagles committed 22 turnovers to 15 for the Penmen.
  • SNHU had a 12-5 advantage on fast-break points.
NOTES
  • SNHU saw its nine-game win streak against Post dating back to 1999-2000 come to an end. The Penmen lead the all-time series with the Eagles 10-2.
  • SNHU is now 45-16 (.738) since the start of the 2021-22 season, including 24-8 (.750) away from the Stan Spirou Field House.
  • The Penmen are 2-1 after three games for a fourth consecutive season.
  • Timberlake set a career-high with 16 three-point field goal attempts. 
  • Three steals by Knight was a career-best.

  • The next game for SNHU is Wednesday, Nov. 29 (5:30 p.m.) when it plays host to Saint Michael's College at the Stan Spirou Field House in a game that will air on both WGIR 610-AM and Fox Sports 930-AM.
