Women's Volleyball Runs Past Pace, 3-1

Graduate student Dai Thawnghmung (Lowell, Mass.) recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team to a 3-1 triumph over Pace University on Friday evening at the Stan Spirou Field House.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire trailed, 23-19, in the opening set when a kill by freshman Jaelyn Miles (Manchester, N.H.) sparked a run of six straight points that put the Penmen up, 1-0, in the match.
  • Pace led, 13-11, in the second set, before it scored eight of the next nine to open a 21-12 advantage. An 8-3 counter-run, with two Pimenta kills, pulled the Penmen within 24-20, but Pace would end it with a kill to even the match.
  • Three kills from Peli, and two each from Thawnghmung and Pimenta, raced SNHU out to a 21-9 advantage in the third set. Pace would not get closer than 10 the rest of the way.
  • The Setters used an 8-0 burst to erase a six-point deficit and open a 21-19 lead in the final frame. The Penmen countered with five straight on the strength of two Thawnghmung kills, to go back in front, 24-21. Clinging to a 24-23 lead, SNHU ended the match with another Thawnghmung kill.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Set scores were 25-23, 20-25, 25-13, 25-13.
  • Junior Carmen Bernardis (Trieste, Italy) notched four kills.
  • Senior Claire Wohlleber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) posted three kills, an ace, four blocks and two digs.
  • Miles chipped in a pair of kills.
  • SNHU outhit Pace in the final two sets, as well as .187-.138, overall.
  • The Penmen held edges in blocks (11-10) and aces (5-4).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won seven of its last nine matches, including five of six.
  • The Penmen have now won eight of the last 10 meetings with Pace, including five-in-a-row. The last Pace win in the series came on its home court Oct. 21, 2017 (3-0). SNHU has also captured four of the last five at home, including three straight. The last time the Setters won at SNHU was Nov. 11, 2016 (3-0).

  • The Penmen are back in action Saturday (Nov. 4) at 1 p.m. when they play host to Adelphi University on Senior Day at the Stan Spirou Field House.
