Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) had a pair of hits to help lead SNHU to a 3-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader with Molloy College Friday in No. Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Lions won the nightcap 4-2 to earn a split.
GAME 1: SNHU 3-1
- Molloy put together back-to-back singles with two outs in the top of the third inning, the game's first hits, but failed to score when Alex Burns grounded into a force play.
- The Penmen loaded the bases in the fourth inning. Junior Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) walked, sophomore Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) singled, and freshman Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa) walked. Sophomore Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.) drew a pinch-hit walk to make it 1-0.
- SNHU extended the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) singled, advanced to second on a groundout and to third on a flyout. She scored on a wild pitch.
- The Penmen tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when freshman Gianna La Spina (Bellmore, N.Y.) singled home Resetar, who had singled.
- The Lions scored in the top of the seventh inning on a single by Steph Conrade.
- Sophomore Hannah DeRock (Hunt, N.Y.) picked up the win with four scoreless innings in her Penmen debut.
- Junior Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) earned the save with three innings in relief, with three strikeouts.
GAME 2: MOLLOY 4-2
- The Penmen scored in the top of the first inning. Garczynski walked, sophomore Abby Hagerty (Marshfield, Mass.) singled, and Dickinson plated the run with a single.
- The Lions answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. Karsyn Eaton singled in one run, and another scored on fielder's choice.
- A tough three-error inning led to a pair of Molloy unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly and a passed ball to extend the lead to 4-1.
- The Penmen loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth inning, but only scored once. Hagerty singled, junior Alyssa DiMauro (Scarborough, Maine) walked, and Dickinson singled. One run was scored on a fielders choice by senior Abi Gray (Litchfield, N.H.) to make it 4-2.
- Hammond started the second game, working the first three innings. McKechnie pitched the final three frames for SNHU.
NOTES
- The Penmen lead the all-time series with Molloy 12-9, and have won five of the last six meetings.
- SNHU was predicted in fifth place in the pre-season Northeast-10 Coaches Poll. ECC Coaches have the Lions in a tie for second place in the preseason poll.
