KEY MOMENTS
  • After Assumption scored the game's first bucket 23 seconds in, Southern New Hampshire ripped off 13 straight points to grab a 13-2 lead at the 14:38 mark. Guillory and Layman scored six and five points, respectively, during the stretch. The Greyhounds would get as close as five and the Penmen ran their lead as high as 14, with Assumption scoring the final three of the half to trim its deficit to 37-28.
  • Assumption opened the second half on a 15-6 run that tied the game, 43-43, with 14:02 remaining. The Greyhounds led, 50-49, just over two minutes later when a four-point play from junior Matt Becht (Vienna, Va.) triggered a 12-2 blitz – with six from Layman – that put SNHU in front, 61-52, with 8:50 left.
  • The gap was seven with just over five minutes to go when a 10-2 rush put Assumption back on top, 68-67, with 2:11 on the clock. It would be the last lead for the hosts, as SNHU closed the game on a 7-1 run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Becht recorded six points (2-6 FG, 1-2 3-FG, 1-1 FT) and five rebounds.

  • SNHU also shot it better from the line, 71.4 percent (15-21) to 68.8 percent (11-16).

NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, which is receiving votes in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Coaches Poll, has won 15 of its last 19, 14 of its last 15 and eight-in-a-row.
  • Assumption had won eight of its previous nine, including five straight.
  • With Bentley University losing Saturday, SNHU is in sole possession of first place in the NE10 standings, one game up on Bentley and Saint Anselm College with one to play. The win against Assumption clinched at least a share of the NE10 regular-season title, a top-three seed and a first-round bye in the NE10 Championship, while a victory Tuesday against Saint Michael's College in the finale will earn the Penmen the NE10 Regular-Season Championship, outright, as well as the top seed for the NE10 postseason.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Assumption, 37-16, and has won 15 of the last 18 meetings, including four of five. The Penmen have also won seven of the last nine in Worcester, but snap a two-game skid with the victory.
  • Guillory has put together a seven-game, double-digit scoring streak (16.4 ppg).
  • Five of Layman's six double-digit scoring performances this season have come in the last seven games, including three-in-a-row. He is averaging 9.8 ppg over his last seven and 12.7 ppg during the three-game run of 10-plus points.
  • Okwuosa has scored in double figures in five of his last six, averaging 16.0 ppg during that stretch.
  • This is just the second time all season Becht has been held under nine points.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen wrap the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 21 (7:30 p.m.) when they plays host to Saint Michael's College at the Stan Spirou Field House in a game that will air live on WGIR 610-AM and Fox Sports New Hampshire 930-AM.
