Alyssa DiMauro (Chester, N.H.) drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game, but SNHU fell to Felician University 8-5 in eight innings in the first game of Sunday's scheduled doubleheader. The second game was postponed.
GAME 1: SNHU 3-2
- The Penmen took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) drew a two-out walk and sophomore Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) ripped a triple into the gap in right-center to drive in the run.
- The Golden Eagles responded with three runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. Mia Martinez singled in the first run, and Mikala Brown doubled down the right field line to put Felician up 3-1.
- After Felician scored twice in the top of the fourth on a single by Kathryun Stienmetz, the Penmen got one back in the bottom of the frame. Freshman Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.) grounded out to score DiMauro, who had been hit by pitch to make it 5-2.
- SNHU tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after two were out. Senior Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) singled in one run, and DiMauro (Chester, N.H.) delivered a two-run single to make it 5-5.
- Gray delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Junior Jill Johnson (Raynham, Mass.) doubled and DiMauro followed with a single to up Gray's hit.
- Sophomore Hannah DeRock (Hunt, N.Y.) started in the circle, working 4.1 innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned).
- The Golden Eagles moved back in front in the eighth when Alexis Velotta doubled home the extra runner, Johanna Rivera. A two-run single by Mia Martinez made it 8-5.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Penmen drew a season-high six walks and were hit three times in the game.
- SNHU went 0-1 in steal attempts after going 12-12 in the first four games of the trip.
- Junior Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) took the loss, working six innings in relief. She allowed four earned runs on nine hits.
- Felician's Riley Williams (W, 2-1) went the distance, allowing five runs on eight hits.
- Felician had 14 hits, led by Kathryn Stienmetz, who went 4-for-4 with a walk.
NOTES
- SNHU concludes the opening series of games in North Myrtle Beach at 3-2.
- The Penmen did not homer in the five games, but had five extra-base hits including three doubles and a pair of triples.
- The balanced offense saw six different players record five hits in the five games.
- SNHU started sophomore Hannah DeRock (Hunt, N.Y.) and Sophomore Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.) on the trip. Leine McKechnie worked in relief in all five games, going 1-1 with two saves.
- The Penmen still lead the all-time series with Felician 2-1.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen will return to action on Saturday, March 11 with a doubleheader at Georgian Court University.
- The first home game for the Penmen is slated for Saturday, April 1 against The College of Saint Rose. That will also be the Northeast-10 opener for Southern New Hampshire.
