Softball Opens Road Swing With Pair of Losses at Georgian Court

Game 2:  Georgian Court University 10, Southern New Hampshire University 0 (5-inn.)

(Lakewood, N.J.) -SNHU Softball returned to action for the first time in almost three weeks but dropped a doubleheader at Georgian Court University on Friday in Lakewood, N.J.  The scores were 3-0 and 10-0.


GAME 1:  GEORGIAN COURT 3-0
 
  • The Penmen threatened but did not score in the top of the second inning when junior Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) was hit by a pitch and freshman Gianna LaSpina (Bellmore, N.Y.) followed with a walk.
  • The Lions scored in the bottom of the inning to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Two more Penmen reached in the top of the third inning on a walk and error, but again freshman Maddie Rabe would get out of the inning.
  • Georgian Court's Kaitlyn Stufft delivered a fourth-inning double to produce another run to make it 2-0.
  • The Penmen did not pick up a hit until junior Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) doubled with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.
  • Freshman Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.) had the other SNHU hit, a pinch-single in the top of the seventh inning.
  • Rabe went the distance for the Lions to improve to 4-1.
  • Sophomore Hannah DeRock (Hunt, N.Y.) allowed one run, working the first three innings.  Junior Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) pitched the final three innings for SNHU.
GAME 2:  GEORGIAN COURT 10-0 (5-INNINGS)
 
  • The Penmen again were held to just two hits, one by Feldman, and one by junior Ari Ferrier (Middleboro, Mass.). 
  • A pair of five-run innings carried the Lions to the sweep.
 
NOTES
  • SNHU played for the first time since February 19 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. 
  • Starting Sunday, the Penmen will play five doubleheaders over an eight-day period, all against non-conference foes.
  • These were the first games between these teams since the Penmen won a pair over the Lions during the 2019 NCAA East 1 Regional at Saint Anselm.  The all-time series is now tied 5-5.
  • Dickinson leads the Penmen with a .316 average through seven games (6-for-19).  She has also drawn four walks for an OBP of .435.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen will return to action on Sunday, March 12 with a doubleheader at East Stroudsburg University.
  • The first home game for the Penmen is slated against The College of Saint Rose on Saturday, April 1.
