Welch Seizes Second Straight NE10 Pitcher of the Week Honor

Welch fired a complete-game, one-hit shutout in 13-0 win

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior George Welch (Derry, N.H.) of the No. 6/9 Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was honored as the NE10 Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Feb. 26, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Welch, who was also selected as the NE10 Pitcher of the Week last week, fired a one-hit, complete-game shutout in Saturday's 13-0, game-two victory over Mercy College. Welch struck out a career-high 12 batters and walked just two over seven innings.

Through two starts, Welch is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, allowing just three hits over 12.0 innings, while striking out 22 and walking only three. Batters are hitting .077 against him. Welch leads the league or is tied for the league lead in wins, ERA, complete games, shutouts, strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings (16.50), while he ranks fourth in innings pitched and opponent batting average.

Welch and the No. 6/9 Penmen (7-1) are back in action Friday, March 3 (12 p.m.) for the first of two doubleheaders against East Stroudsburg University.
