Heartbreak for Men's Lacrosse in 12-11 Loss to #10 Pace

Setters Score with 20 Left to win Saturday

Senior Tim Krutz (Cheshire, Conn.) scored three times off passes from graduate student Tristan Pietz (Dudley, Mass.) to give SNHU Men's Lacrosse a fourth-quarter lead, but 10th-ranked Pace University stormed back for a 12-11 win over the Penmen Saturday at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium.

  • Junior Jack Terrones (Anaheim, Calif.) – 2 goals
  • Junior Ronan DePaul (Elkton, Md.) – 20 saves
  • Senior Gennaro Marra (Hampstead, N.H.) – 2 assists, 8 ground balls
KEY MOMENTS
  • Pace led the contest 4-0 at the end of the first period, scoring twice in man-up situations.
  • Auger scored twice and assisted on another in the second period as the Penmen were able to close the gap to 5-3 by halftime.
  • Graduate student Chris Valentine (Derry, N.H.) found the net to open the fourth quarter to pull SNHU to within 5-4, but Pace responded by scoring three of the next four for an 8-5 lead.
  • The Penmen rallied to tie at 8-8 with a pair of goals by Krutz (from Pietzz) and one by Terrones.
  • Auger, Krutz, and then Auger again scored for SNHU over 2:40 to give SNHU an 11-9 lead with 8:26 to play. 
  • The Setters rallied late with Anthony Caputo tying the game with 1:09 to play, and after winning possession, Timmy Morrow tallied the game-winner with 20 seconds left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Pace outshot the Penmen 56-35 for the game, including 16-3 in the first quarter.
  • DePaul made 20 saves for the Penmen, while Louis Ragusa had 15 saves for the Setters.
  • SNHU went 22-for-25 on clear attempts while Pace was 19-20.
  • Pace had a 34-24 advantage on ground balls.
  • The Setters were 2-4 in man-up situations and the Penmen were 1-3.
  • Rafael Rodriguez Jr. had a hat trick for Pace.
NOTES
  • Pace holds an 18-5 advantage all-time against SNHU.  The Setters have won the last five meetings.
  • Auger scored eight goals in SNHU's two games this week, has now scored 35 goals, and added 34 assists in the 18 games he has played for the Penmen.
  • This was the first career hat trick for Krutz, who has scored six goals for SNHU this season.
  • DePaul made 20 saves for the second consecutive game, two off his career-high.
  • This was the fourth consecutive contest the Penmen have played against a ranked opponent.
